Chinese Wild Ginger.

Semi-evergreen, glossy leaves with attractive marbling look lovely all year round in woodland.  Rhizomatous perennial which is fairly vigorous has heart shaped leaves which are purple beneath.  In spring, dark chocolate brown and purple cup-shaped flowers appear beneath the foliage.  This plant lends itself to being a ground cover subject in part sun to full shade, forming a thick mat of foliage.  Ht 5-8" tall with a spread of 10-16".
