Kings Spear

Rhizomatous perennial needing a hot and dry position.  Grassy leaves emerge in late spring.  Native to the Meditteranean and grows on rocky soils.  Fragrant star-shaped flowers on tall stems in late spring.  This perennial forms clumps up to 60cms wide, and the flower stems can reach 5ft (1.5m)  Flowers are edible and can be added to summer salads.  Has a mild slightly sweet flavour and is an unusual addition.
