This is a new selection of the 'Red Brazilian Tree Fern'. It boasts striking red new foliage which turns to a glossy green as fronds mature. It will re-flush in June each year. Over time the erect rhizome of his fern will form a thin stripe-stubbed trunk around 40cms in height. This plant grows to 1-2m with a spread of 60cms. Plant in part or full shade and in humous rich soil which is on the acid side.
This tree fern is not hardy so it will not tolerate much frost. Move to a cool conservatory or into the house for winter. It dislikes excessive watering, but must not be allowed to dry out. Some say it is hardier when more mature.
These plants are very young and will require some attention, but worth the effort to have something a little different if you have green fingers and a warm winter garden. Hardy to -5 deg max.
