Calamagrostis 'Avalanche' (xa) 3L

Feather Reed Grass.  Calamagrostis x acutiflora 'Avalanche' is similar to 'Overdam' except the creamy white stripes are quite prominent on the foliage.  Will grow in wet soils.  Slow growing, compact , erect and slightly arching slender foliage with rich green and white stripes.  The flower heads reach 90cm above the foliage and pinkish-green flowers give a frothy inflorescence and gives continuing winter interest so don't cut them down too early as it is worth the wait.  Position full sun or partial shade in almost any soil.  Flower heads appear from July to December.  As the seed heads mature, they turn golden.  Lovely en masse or planted amongst Echinaceas, Achilleas, Eryngiums, Kniphofia and Anemone japonicas.  Ht 90-150cms x 45-75cms spread.
