Convallaria majalis 9cm
Lily of the Valley. Rhizomatous perennial producing tough, slender, creeping, branching rhizomes bearing pairs of ovate-lance-shaped to elleptic, stalked. hairless basal leaves, 4-20cm long. Spherical-bell-shaped, strongly scented, waxy white flowers, 0.5-1cm accross are produced on leafless stems in late spring. Height 23cm. Spread 30cm. Fully hardy. Can be used as ground cover in a damp, shady border or, in a wild woodland garden. Grow in leafy, fertile, humus-rich soil in full sun or part shade.
