A large deciduous, distinguished grey-velvet shrub with open blue-mauve flat flowerheads which are surrounded by white florets, in late summer.  Prefers light shade.  This hydrangea has very large leaves which have a velvety appearance and appear hairy.  Leaves can be up to 28cms long.  This shrub grows in a lax manner to 1.5-2m.
