Wonderful statuesque Kniphofia which keeps its foliage right through the year.  Needs a bit of space, but is very hardy, given good drainage.  Fleshy glaucous leaves finely serrated and up to 70cm long, with fat coral-red pokers in late summer.  From South Africa

1.2m x 1m wide.  Moist but well drained position required. Worthy just for the foliage.
